Theodore Gabras(?). Duke of Trebizond, circa late 1080s-1126. Æ Follis (22mm, 1.80 g). Struck circa 1092-1098(?). Facing bust of Christ Pantocrator / Latin cross with globus and two pellets at each end and saltire at center. Bendall, “The mint of Trebizond under Alexius I and the Gabrades,”
NC 1977, -; SB -; DOC -. Near VF, brown patina.
While apparently unpublished, the thin, clipped fabric (struck first, then cut down into polygonal form) would suggest its relation to issues of the Gabrades in Trebizond.
