PERTINAX. 193 AD. AR Denarius (2.63 gm). Alexandria Mint. Laureate head right / Ops seated left, holding grain ears. RIC -; BMCRE -; RSC 33a. Toned VF. ($500)
RIC and BMC make no distinction between the Rome and Alexandria mint denarii of Pertinax, though the styles are quite distinguishable. Two reverse types were struck at Alexandria, the type seen here and Providentia, and though this specimen is reasonably well preserved, Alexandria mint denarii are usually on very porous flans and are usually very worn.
