GORDIAN III. 238-244 AD. Æ Medallic As? (10.34 gm). Struck 241 AD. Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind / Gordian standing left in slow quadriga, holding palm branch and being crowned by Victory who stands behind him; soldier holding horses by reins. RIC IV 322; Cohen 290. VF, dark brown patina, light encrustation, flan crack. Very rare. ($150)

The true status of this coin, as or medallion, has never quite been determined. The lack of S C on the coin does suggest that it was a special issue.
