Time of Constantine I. Circa 330 AD. AR Half-Siliqua (1.30 gm). Star of eight rays / Laurel wreath. Vierordt (J. Schulman, 15 March 1923), lot 2818. VF+, porous. Very rare, only a handful of recorded specimens. ($200)
This rare coin, along with numerous other unusual designs including the P and K type third-siliquae, was probably issued as part of the ceremonies in celebration of the dedication of Constantinople in 330 AD. Interestingly, this silver issue shares its obverse die with the Æ tessera of similar types but with O/CS/C in the wreath (for an example, see CNG Auction 53, lot 1736).
