ANGLO-SAXON, Continental Sceattas. Circa 695/700-710/5. AR Sceat (12mm, 1.12 g). Series E, ‘Ashton Rowant’ phase, plumed bird var. J (type 6). Mint in Frisia (Dorestad). Plumed bird right, with head bent down and triple-forked tail; cross pommée below neck and tail feathers / Beaded standard, with pellet-in-annulet at center, bar across upper and lower fields, and trefoil to left and right; cross at each side. Cf. Abramson E300; Metcalf 190-3; North 49; SCBC 790K (789). Good VF, lightly toned, minor porosity.
