CRUSADERS, Genoese at Chios. Anonymous imitation of Antonio Venier, 1362-1400. AV Ducat (3.51 gm). S/M/V/E/N/E/T/I, ANTO VENERIO, doge kneeling before St. Mark, both supporting pendant / ¾SITT XPE DAT Q TV-.REGIST ISTE DVCAT, Christ in glory, holding Gospels and giving benediction. Cf. Ives pl. XIII, 1; Gamberini 394. VF, heavy obverse die rust. ($150)
The legends are technically correct, albeit crude. This crudity and the heavy die rust signals that this is not a standard Venetian issue.
