TANDEM PATIENTIA VICTRIX, "At last, patience is the victor!" After more than a generation of ceaseless fighting, despoiling, burning and treachery, the Thirty Year War concluded, for this town, when the occupying forces left in 1643. The bells rang to celebrate the end of the war, and all who had survived rejoiced. (The war finally ended a few years later, in 1648)
