Edward the Confessor. 1042-1066. AR Penny (1.28 gm). Helmet/hammer cross mule. Struck 1059-1062. Winchester mint. Liofwold, moneyer. + EDPE-D REX, helmeted bust right, holding sceptre in right hand / + LIOFPOLD ONPINEE (NP ligate), voided short cross with each limb terminating in an incurved segment of a circle. Cf. North 825/828; cf. Seaby 1179/1182. Toned, good VF. Extremely rare, only four specimens of this mule known. ($2000)
