ITALY, Papale (Stato pontificio). Martinus V (Oddone Colonna). 1417-1431. Æ Medal (42mm, 41.83 g, 12h). Bust right, wearing zucchetto and mantum / View of the papal coronation. Mazio 2; Lincoln 316. EF, dark brown surfaces, minor die flaw.
From an old English collection.
Belonging to one of the oldest and most distinguished families of Rome, Martin V saw to the end of the Western Schism, which was a near-40 year split within the Catholic Church, during which time three men each claimed to be the true Pope. Though he was a man of uprightness and moderation, he was not seen as a particularly reforming Pope.
