The Triumvirs. Octavian. Autumn 30-summer 29 BC. AR Denarius (18mm, 3.94 g, 6h). Italian (Rome?) mint. Head of youthful Mars right, wearing slight beard and crested Corinthian helmet / Circular shield, the central boss ornamented with a star, lying on top of a sword and spear in saltire. RIC I 274; CRI 428; RSC 44. Good VF, lightly toned, minor obverse die flaw.
Probably struck to commemorate Octavian’s victory of the “Liberatores” at Philippi.
