Tyra’s civic coinage comes to an abrupt end following the defeat of Mithradates VI of Pontos in 63 BC. Shortly thereafter, the Getai, under Burebista, devastated the region in a series of raids. Tyra was sacked and largely destroyed during one of the incursions, and was not substantially rebuilt until early Roman times, at which time its coinage resumed.
