THESSALY, Larissa. Circa 380-365 BC. AR Drachm (20mm, 6.06 g, 11h). Head of the nymph Larissa facing slightly left, wearing ampyx, pendant earring, and necklace / ΛA-P above, IΣA downward to right, the hero Thessalos, wearing petasos and chlamys, preparing to vault on the back of a bridled horse cantering right. L-S series 3, dies O3/R4 for obv. die O1 [unrecorded die combination]); BCD Thessaly II 291 (same obv. die); BCD Thessaly I 1151 (same rev. die). VF, toned, scuff in nymph’s hair, reverse die rust.
From the BCD Collection.
What appears to be a final “I” in the ethnic is probably just a die flaw, barely discernible on BCD Thessaly I 1151.
