PAMPHYLIA, Aspendos. Circa 380/75-330/25 BC. AR Stater (22mm, 10.62 g, 12h). Two wrestlers grappling; BΛ between legs / Slinger in throwing stance right; triskeles to right; all in pelleted square within shallow incuse square; c/m: uncertain symbol within incuse circle. Tekin Series 4; SNG France –; SNG von Aulock –; Izmir –; SNG Copenhagen –; SNG PP 5. VF, toned, areas of roughness. Very rare with BΛ.

Ex Robert and Julius Diez Collection (Lanz 151, 30 June 2011), lot 182; Egger XLV (12 November 1913), lot 605.

The BΛ issue is among the rarest of Aspendos staters. Correct attribution of these is dependent upon a close reading of the text of many published collections, as coin wear and poor quality photos often make the more common BA issues appear to read BΛ (see SNG Copenhagen 215 and Izmir 4).
