EASTERN EUROPE, Imitations of Thasos. Circa 1st century BC. AR Tetradrachm (33mm, 16.24 g, 1h). Head of Dionysos right, wearing ivy wreath / Herakles standing left, with simplified lion’s skin and club extending from his right and left arms, respectively; legend degraded to a series of pellets. OTA Class V; cf. Lukanc 1567 and 1713 (for similar obv. style). VF, toned, typical wavy flan, two small edge irregularities.


The engraver responsible for this obverse die seems to be the same used to strike the specimens cited above in Lukanc, as well as lot 248 above.
