Diademed and veiled head of Concordia right; star below chin / Two statues of Venus Cloacina on platform with balustrade of the shrine of Venus Cloacina. Crawford 494/42b; CRI 188a; Sydenham 1093a; Mussidia 6. Good VF, attractive iridescent toning, struck slightly off center.

From the Goldman Roman Imperatorial Collection.

The association of the epithet Cloacina with Venus originates from the alleged discovery of one of her statues in the cloacae, the roman sewers, and dedicated as the Cloacina at a comitium by T. Tatius, king of the Sabines.
