SICILY, Syracuse. Hiketas II. 287-278 BC. Æ (23mm, 10.36 g, 6h). Struck circa 287-283 BC. Wreathed head of Kore left / Charioteer driving biga right; star above. BAR Issue 38; cf. CNS 123 (Agathokles); cf. SNG ANS 771 (Fourth Democracy). VF, dark brown patina with some red, light smoothing, minor roughness.


The “Persephone/Biga” type normally has subsidiary control marks on obverse and/or reverse. This specimen, of good style on a large flan, has no trace of such controls
