Hadrian. AD 117-138. Æ Sestertius (32mm, 25.72 g, 12h). Rome mint. Struck AD 132-134. Laureate and draped bust left / Steersman and rowers in galley left; Triton on prow. RIC II 209; Banti 371 var. VF, brown patina, light smoothing. Rare.
Ex Robert O. Ebert Collection; Hausman Collection.
There are numerous varieties of this type (Banti notes 34). Banti no. 371, of which the author only knew of two examples, is the only variety of his that combines this left-facing bust type and the galley with Triton on the prow. That variety, however, has the upper portion of the reverse legend broken into two lines directly above the galley.
