KINGS of MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’. 336-323 BC. Quarter Stater (Gold, 2.16 g 3), ‘Amphipolis’, uncertain mint in Macedonia, c. 330-320. Head of Athena right, wearing Corinthian helmet adorned with serpent.
Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Thunderbolt, bow and club. Price 165. Very rare and in unusually fine condition. Good extremely fine.
From the Mieza collection, ex Nomos Fixed Price List 2009, 39.
The quarter staters of Alexander III are actually very rare, all the more so when they are both well struck and finely preserved. This is a particularly nice example of this elusive type.
