CARIA, Knidos. Circa 411-405/4 BC. Drachm (Silver, 6.12 g 6). Forepart of lion to right, with open jaws and outstretched right paw.
Rev. ΚΝΙ Head of Aphrodite to right, her hair bound in a plain sphendone, wearing a plain necklace and with a beaded neck truncation; all within incuse square. Cahn -, but from his Series VI.2 (for some closely comparable dies see, obverse V 57 and reverse R 74). Cf. SNG Copenhagen 256 (Cahn 120). Cf. SNG Lockett 2888 (Cahn 113).
Apparently an unpublished variant of one of the latest 5th century issues of Knidos. A few minor marks,
otherwise, extremely fine.
