Extremely Rare Silver in the Name of Amatokos

KINGS of THRACE. Amatokos. First or Second reign, circa 389-380 BC or circa 359-356 BC. AR Tetrobol (12mm, 2.27 g). Chersonesos (Thrace) mint. Forepart of lion right, head left / Quadripartite incuse circle; two opposing quarters raised, containing a pellet and A; the other two opposing quarters containing a labys and AM. Topalov, Political, p. 382, 63 = S. Topalov, The Odrysian Kingdom and the coinage of the south-eastern towns in Thracia from the late 5th to the mid-4th C. B.C., p. 95. VF, toned. Extremely rare, apparently the third known.

This is the sole silver issue in the name of Amatokos. According to Topalov, this issue was struck as a tax payment to Amatokos by the towns of Thracian Chersonesos (cf. Topalov, Political, pp. 445–6).
