UNCERTAIN GERMANIC TRIBES. Mid 5th century AD or later. Æ Bronze Buckle. Dimensions: overall length, 42mm; overall width, 28mm; overall height, 16mm. Weight: 26.70 grams. Figure-eight bronze loop, decorated at the back with two pairs of lines; cylindrical/slightly faceted tongue having rectangular plate decorated with VIVES (
may you live) above zig-zag pattern, all within linear border; traces of iron front plate (now missing) remain. Cf. Benet R12-0202 (for type). Very good condition, black-green patina with areas of thick earthen encrustation.
