Struck circa 1320-1329. + ROBЄRTVS DЄ[...], crowned head left; scepter before / RЄX SCO TOR VM +, long cross pattée; voided star in angles. H&S – (unlisted dies); Burns 1 (fig. 228) var. (rev. legend); SCBI 35 (Ashmolean & Hunterian) 324-6 var. (same); SCBC 5078. VF, toned. Extremely rare.
Nick Holmes and Lord Stewartby recorded only twelve farthings of Robert the Bruce in their die study of the coinage in 2000, of which nine were in museum collections (cf. BNJ 70, pp. 45–60). Five obverse and three reverse dies were recorded. This specimen was not listed in the study and is struck from unrecorded dies.
