Laureate head of Janus; ATRATINVS AVGVR below / Prow of galley right; ANTONIVS above, IMP below. Amandry, Bronze I pl. 17; Crawford 530/1 (citing one specimen in Paris); CRI 264; Sydenham 1254; RPC I 2226; Kestner 3818; BMCRR East p. 501. Near VF, green patina. Extremely rare.


In 40 BC Lucius Sempronius Atratinus was elected a member of the college of augurs, and in July 39 BC was appointed consul designate at the time of the treaty of Misenum. The inscription on this coin indicates that it was struck before July 39 BC.
