2nd Intermediate Period. 15th Dynasty. Uncertain Hyksos King (circa 1650-1550 BC). Steatite scarab (22x16mm). Base divided into three vertical panels, the central one engraved with the birth name of an Hyksos king, preceded and followed by the epithets “Son of Re” and “Given Life”. On sides, decorative signs. Intact, once glazed, pierced for mounting.
From the David Hendin Collection.
The composition and titles on the base of this piece are undoubtedly characteristic of a royal Hyksos name. It is unclear whether this is an entirely new name of just a misspelling (perhaps of Sheshi).
