New Kingdom. 18th Dynasty. Horemheb (circa 1321-1293 BC). Steatite scaraboid (16x9mm). Base is engraved with the throne name of Horemheb, Djeserkheperure Setepenre (“Holy are the Manifestations of Re, Chosen of Re”). Cf. Basel 390; Hall 2713. Intact, delightful blue glaze, pierced for mounting. Very rare.
From the David Hendin Collection.
Horemheb was the last king of the 18th Dynasty. Of non-royal origins, he was commander-in-chief of the army during the reigns of his two predecessors, Tutankhamun and Ay.
