New Kingdom. Circa 1550-1075 BC. Steatite amulet in the shape of a squatting baboon (17x13mm). Back finely carved with a baboon squatting on a neb basket. Base engraved with a hunting scene: man with a bow on the left, pursuing a lion; tree to right. For a similar back, cf. NFA 246-247; Matouk II, 823-9; Jaeger fig. 144a-b and 147b. Intact, once glazed, pierced for mounting. A very interesting piece with a detailed back engraving.
