Justinian I. 527-565. AR Half Siliqua (13mm, 1.21 g, 6h). Ravenna mint. Struck 552-565. Diademed bust right, wearing robe / Large Christogram within wreath. DOC 338; MIBE 77; Ranieri 359-60; SB 319. Near VF, toned, edge chip.
From the Bramhall Collection. Ex Robert Bridge Collection (with his ticket).
The dating and chronology for the Justinian’s Italian silver is debated. Ranieri dates them 552-565, after the DOC catalog. They could very well predate 552, at which time a series of silver coins of reduced weight may have been introduced.
