Heraclius, with Martina and Heraclius Constantine. 610-641. Æ Follis (30mm, 10.68 g, 6h). Contemporary imitation of a Constantinople mint issue dated RY 2 (611/2), 4th “officina”. Heraclius, in center, flanked by Martina, on left, and Heraclius Constantine, on right, each wearing crown and chlamys and holding globus cruciger; two crosses flanking Heraclius’ head / Large M; cross above, A/N/N/O II across field; Δ//CON. Cf. DOC 89-91; cf. MIB 161; cf. SB 806. VF, brown surfaces.
From the Bramhall Collection. Ex Robert Bridge Collection (with his ticket).
The official type was not struck until regnal year 6. Thus the date on this coin (year 2) and the crude style indicate it is imitative. Crude imitations of this type are very common, but this is an especially pleasing example struck on a large flan and with clear types.
