MACEDON, Kings of. Demetrios Poliorketes. 306-285 BC. AR Tetradrachm (16.86 gm). Thebes mint. Struck circa 289-287 BC. Diademed and horned head of Demetrios right / Nude Poseidon standing left with right foot on rock, holding trident in left hand; monogram to right. Newell 141 var. (monogram in circle, same monogram as 142 -- a hemidrachm). Good VF, minor smoothing in reverse fields. Fine artistic style and one of the most realistic and lifelike portraits of Demetrios. ($750)
