ASIA MINOR. Circa 500-450 BC. AR Hemiobol (6mm, 0.29 g). Eagle in flight / Wheel. CNG E287, lot 216; otherwise unpublished. Fine, toned, minor porosity. Perhaps the second and finest known.
The types fit well with Chalkis in Euboia, although this denomination is unrecorded and the reverse lacks the usual triangular incuse. The eagle does not appear on coins of other mints employing a wheel on the reverse and the attribution must for now remain uncertain.
