SYRIA, Seleukid Kings. Tryphon. 142-138 BC. AR Tetradrachm (16.42 gm). Antioch mint. Diademed head right / Macedonian cavalry helmet with ibex horn, thunderbolt on cheek guard, monogram to left, AG below; all within oak wreath. Cf. SNG Spaer 1822; Seyrig, Notes on Syrian Coins, pl. I, 15 (same dies); Houghton, CSE, 257. Toned, near EF, nice flan. Very rare, choice portrait of this short-lived usurper. ($5000)
