CALABRIA, Tarentum. Circa 290-281 BC. AR Nomos (19mm, 7.82 g, 8h). Warrior, holding two spears and shield adorned with dolphin, on horse rearing left; [A]-Z-A in upper fields, [AΠH below] / Phalanthos, holding distaff, astride dolphin left; COI to left, ornate trident head to right. Fischer-Bossert Group 81, 1137 (V421/R879); Vlasto 648; HN Italy 940; SNG ANS 1022; SNG Copenhagen 858; SNG Fitzwilliam 286; de Luynes 297 (all from the same dies). Good VF, lightly toned. Interesting issue, unusual shield with dolphin. Very rare, only one example in CoinArchives: Nomos I, lot 5 (hammer 10,500 CHF) = Leu 100, lot 75.
