CNG 94, Lot: 20. Estimate $750.
Sold for $550. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

CALABRIA, Tarentum. Campano-Tarentine series. Circa 281-272 BC. AR Nomos (18mm, 7.29 g, 8h). Diademed head of nymph left / Youth on horseback right, crowning horse with wreath; below, dolphin surmounting Ionic capital. Vlasto 1016 = Pozzi (Boutin) 322 (this coin); HN Italy 1098. VF, attractive old collection toning, a few marks under the tone.

From the JMG Collection. Ex M.P. Vlasto Collection, 1016; Prof. S. Pozzi Collection (not in Naville-Ars Classica I sale).

Interestingly, both the Pozzi (Boutin) and Vlasto texts cite the wrong coin numbers of each collection. Pozzi cites Vlasto 1015, rather than 1016, and Vlasto cites Pozzi pl. XII, no. 422, rather than pl. XII, no. 322.
