MYSIA, Lampsakos. Circa 500-450 BC. EL Hekte – Sixth Stater (10mm, 2.21 g). Forepart of Pegasos right / Quadripartite incuse square. Traité I 104 = J.P. Six, “Monnaies grecques, inédites et incertaines (
suite)” in
NC 1894, p. 314 and pl. XIII, 8; Triton X, lot 272; CNG 88, lot 295. VF, granular surfaces. Very low grade electrum. Extremely rare.
See Triton XVI, lot 431, for this issue with obverse type left. All of these rare hektes are struck on very low grade electrum, and appear to be almost silver when viewed in-hand. In fact, although Six described his coin as electrum in the text of his NC 1894 article, the coin was marked as silver on the plate!
