SYRIA, Decapolis. Gadara. Septimius Severus. AD 193-211. Æ Medallion (33mm, 21.89 g, 12h). Dated CY 262 (AD 198/9). Laureate and cuirassed bust right, slight drapery / ΠΟΜΠ/HIЄωN ΓΑ/∆ΑΡЄωN/ ЄT ΒΞC (date), galley left, with nine rowers between lookout and steersman. Spijkerman 69 (same dies); Rosenberger 69; Sofaer 70 (same dies); SNG ANS –. Good VF, earthen green patina. Very rare and exceptional for issue.
Slightly superior to the only other example on CoinArchives (from the Shoshana Collection, lot 20627), which hammered for $4000.
