PHOENICIA, Tyre. Macrinus. AD 217-218. Æ (31mm, 24.91 g, 12h). Laureate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Macrinus, as pontiff, with yoke of oxen right, plowing pomerium; behind, vexillum inscribe LEG/III/GAL. Rouvier –; AUB –; BMC –; cf. CNG E-257, lot 300 (same obv. die; different rev. type). VF, dark green patina with earthen deposits, some very minor tooling. Apparently a unique type for Macrinus.
This reverse type is known on coins of Septimius Severus and Julia Domna (cf. Rouvier 2300-1), but is heretofore unknown for Macrinus.
