Maurice Tiberius. 582-602. AV Solidus (20mm, 3.42 g, 7h). Light weight issue of 22 siliquae(?). Constantinople mint, 10th officina. Struck 583/4-602. Helmeted, draped, and cuirassed facing bust, holding globus cruciger / Angel standing facing, holding staff surmounted by staurogram and globus cruciger; I//[O]B[+X]. Cf. DOC 8 var. (unlisted officina); cf. MIBE 13b; cf. SB 482. VF, slightly wavy flan, exergue worn, clipped.
From the Iconodule Collection.
The exergue is unfortunately worn on this severely-underweight solidus, preventing a definite attribution to either the 22 siliquae issue, which should weigh around 4 grams, and the much rarer 20 siliquae issue, which should weigh around 3.75 grams. We have been unable to find a die match to either.
