ANGLO-SAXON, Kings of Kent. Ecgberht. Circa 765-785. AR Penny (17mm, 1.17 g, 12h). Caentwarabyrig (Canterbury) mint; Udd, moneyer. Struck circa 776-784. + EGCBERHT around (RX) / VDD within pelleted rectangle; above and below, cross pattée with pellets in quarters between spiral and triple pellet ornaments. Chick Type 87; SCBI 1 (Fitzwilliam), 428; BMC 1; North 200; SCBC 874. EMC 2013.0114 (this coin). VF, toned, minor bend in flan. Among the earliest English pennies. Very rare.
