Ex 1908 Brussels Hoard.
Uncovered by workmen in Brussels in 1908, this hoard contained over 140,000 coins, the majority of which were English pence from the mid-13th century. Though many of the non-English pieces were melted down shortly after their recovery, the English pieces themselves, representing a vast corpus of study on the coinage during the reign of Henry III, has since spawned the publication of two important books on his issues: the work by Churchill & Thomas, covering the contents of the Hoard from an English perspective centering around Henry III, and the work by Churchill alone, covering specifically the mints and moneyers during this reign.
