MACEDON, Mende. Circa 400-350 BC. Chalkous (Bronze, 9mm, 1.56 g 9). Head of youthful Dionysos to right, wearing ivy wreath.
Rev. ΜΙΝ Amphora with tall handles; to left, ivy plant. SNG ANS 396. SNG Copenhagen 221 var. (head to left). An attractive piece with a dark, glossy patina. Nearly extremely fine.
From a European collection, formed before 2005.
These coins of Mende seem both to be fairly scarce and also tend to be rather poorly preserved: this lovely little piece is, on the contrary, in excellent condition.
