THRACE, Bizya. Philip I. AD 244-249. Æ (34mm, 18.73 g, 8h). Homonoia with Byzantium. Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust right / Apollo of Bizya standing right, holding arrow, clasping right hands with Artemis of Byzantium standing left, holding bow; large wicker torch behind. F&N 124 (VsA/Rs1) = Jurukova, Bizye 121 = Schönert-Geiss, Byzantion 1885 (V1/R1) = Varbanov 1579 (R8) = BMC p. 92, 1; see also CNG 64, lot 582 (same dies); CNG e81, lot 57 (same rev. die). Near VF, green patina, smoothing/cleaning scratches in fields. Very rare, the British Museum coin being the only specimen cited in all of the specialized references.
