STUART. James I. 1603-1625. Electrotype Oval AR Medal (42x52mm, 28.21 g, 12h). Badge Honoring James I. By R. Ready (after uncertain artist). Original struck circa 1624. + IACOBVS · DG · MAG · BRITA · FR · ET · HI · REX +, draped bust facing slightly right, wearing brimmed hat with badge, ruff, and Collar of the Order of the Garter / + FIDEI (rosette) DEFENSOR + (the defender of the faith), laureate, draped, and armored bust facing slightly right, wearing ruff. Cf. MI 235/99 (for prototype); Eimer –. Good VF, fields lightly chased, suspension loop at 12h. An interesting electrotype of this otherwise unique piece.

The prototype of this piece, which resides in the British Museum, is apparently unique, though its origin is still not completely known. As it was cast and chased and included a ring for suspension, it was likely created and distributed to a Favourite of the Court.
