314, Lot: 13. Estimate $100.
Sold for $85. This amount does not include the buyer’s fee.

IBERIA, Neronken. Early 1st century BC. Æ Unit (25mm, 9.36 g, 6h). Veiled female head right / Bull running right; laurel wreath above. ACIP 2696; CNH 4; SNG BM Spain 1789-92. VF, glossy dark brown surfaces. Very rare.

Previously attributed to the Longostaletes (region of Narbonne), but the Iberic inscription NERONKEN indicates it was issued by the Nedenes. Brigitte Fischer gives it to the oppidum of Montlaurès (Hérault). Tivis is probably the person who issued this coin. The name is otherwise unknown, though Holder (1904) records Tibiscum and Tibiscus. Villaronga (194) records only 13 examples of the Tivis type.
