Bearded head of Zeus(?) right, wearing tainia / Eagle flying right; AP(?) monogram below; all within border of pellets within incuse square. Nollé & Wenninger –; CNG 85, 420 var. (no mongram below eagle). VF, minor porosity. Very nice for this rare type.


After Themistokles’ death (on Themistokles, see lot 79 above), his son Archepolis succeeded him as governor and issued a similar series of silver fractions. These coins are part of the primary evidence of his otherwise little-known reign.
