SICILY, Syracuse. Second Democracy. 466-405 BC. AR Tetradrachm (25mm, 16.78 g, 11h). Struck circa 460-450 BC. Charioteer, holding kentron in right hand and reins in both, driving quadriga right; above, Nike flying right, crowning horses with open wreath held in both hands; in exergue, ketos right / Diademed head of Arethusa right, wearing single-pendant earring and necklace; Σ-V-RAKOΣ-I-ON and four dolphins around. Boehringer Series XIVa, 470 (V253/R338); HGC 2, 1311; SNG ANS 145; de Luynes 1174; Gulbenkian 259–60; Jameson 761; Pozzi 574; Rizzo pl. XXXVII, 1 (all from the same dies). Good VF, old cabinet tone, a few light scratches under tone at edge on obverse, patches of minor roughness and die break on reverse.
