TRAJAN. 98-117 AD. AR Denarius (3.55 gm). Struck 101-102 AD. Laureate bust right, slight drapery on left shoulder / Nude statue of Hercules standing facing, holding lion's skin and club. RIC II 49 var. (no drapery); BMCRE pg. 43 note; RSC 236. EF. ($300) This statue has been identified as being part of the Ara Maxima Herculis Invicti, an altar dedicated to Hercules near the Forum Boarium in Rome.
