CARACALLA. 198-217 AD. AV Aureus (6.38 gm). Struck 214 AD. Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left, seen from behind / Caracalla standing left, sacrificing before the Temple of Vesta, two Vestal virgins standing before, child between then, two togate men standing behind. RIC IV 249 var. (bust right); BMCRE 101 var. (same); Cohen 250 var. Fine, pierced twice above Caracalla's head, both plugged. Unrecorded variety with the left facing bust. ($500)
