IONIA, Teos. Circa 500-450 BC. AR Tetartemorion (6mm, 0.27 g). Head of griffin left / Incuse punch with central pellet. VF, toned.
This series with left and right facing griffins is variously attributed to Abdera, Phokaia, and Teos. The issues, like this coin, with the central pellet on the reverse, in this cataloger’s opinion, probably belong to Teos as the central pellet on the reverse is also found on coins from neighboring Kolophon.
