Pescennius Niger. AD 193-194. AR Denarius (18mm, 2.35 g, 12h). Antioch mint. [IMP CAES] C PE S N[IGE]R IVS[...], laureate head right / BON[AE S]PEI, Spes advancing left, holding flower and hem of skirt. RIC IV 3 var. (obv. legend); RSC 4 var. (same). Fine, lamination flaw on the obverse, rough surfaces.
The metal beneath the obverse lamination flaw appears to be copper, i.e. a fourrée, but is most likely low-grade silver with impurities in the alloy.
