ARMENIA. Levon II. 1270-1289. AR Tram (2.37 gm). Levon on horseback; holds patriarchal cross, T in field, abbreviated name / Crowned lion facing left; paw raised, patriarchal cross above. Bedoukian 1453ff.; AC 369ff. VF. ($100)
From the Manuel Panossian Collection.
Ignoring for the most part details like style, field marks and length of legend, there are several other criteria useful to distinguish the varities of Levon's horseman trams. On the obverse, his name can be spelled with four or five letters, and he holds a sceptre with patriarchal cross, simple cross, ornate lis or plain lis. On the reverse, the lion faces right or left, his forepaw can be raised or lowered, and there is a patriarchal or plain cross behind him.
